Now in Print - Becoming Yourself: A Perspective on Christian Character
I’m excited to announce that Becoming Yourself: A Perspective on Christian Character is now in print and available for order. You can order print copies on www.jackhoey.com or on Amazon; an e-book version is also available on Amazon.
A brief recap of the book:
American culture is obsessed with self-fulfillment, often measured by what we earn, what we possess, and what we display. Christian teaching offers a different perspective on how we fulfill our potential: whether we live effective and productive lives is a function of what we are, not what we do.
Becoming Yourself studies the qualities of character listed in 2 Peter 1 – faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love – and explores spiritual disciplines and life habits that can enable us to embed these qualities in our hearts and express them in our words and actions. The title comes from a journal entry the philosopher Soren Kierkegaard wrote not long after his conversion experience. Musing about what this would mean for his life, he ended the entry by writing, “And now, with God’s help, I shall become myself.” It is God’s power working through us that enables us to grow spiritually and empowers us to produce spiritual fruit, but we need to learn how to take hold of that power in our daily lives.
I’m excited to share the results of this long project of spiritual exploration with you. For those who have provided feedback and encouragement along the way – thank you.
As I’ve shared before, I write as a fellow traveler, nothing more, but I hope that what I have learned and am learning will be useful to many of you.

Praise the Lord! I'm sure it will be an excellent read with your gift of writing!
I just ordered the book and am looking forward to reading it, especially since 2 Peter 1 is the subject of our current sermon series at The Shepherds Church!
