Tilley Hats
After a week at the beach with my children and their families, I am reminded of my affection for my Tilley hat. Those of you who know me may never have seen me wear a hat, and certainly not a ballcap. The only exception is when I’m out in the sun for an extended time, usually at the beach or the pool; sometimes it’s nice to give the top of my head a break. I also bring it along if I’m going to be out in the rain and an umbrella isn’t practical. The hat has a wide brim which is good for shielding both from sun and rain.
I have what Tilley is now calling a T3 Classic – not sure they had more than one style when I bought mine. Tilley hats are guaranteed never to wear out or they will be replaced for free (the label on my hat add, “yes, put it in your will”). My hat is over 25 years old now, and I attest to its durability. It also has a timeless look – a good thing for a product with a long lifespan.

Splendor
I am, in general, not the biggest fan of board games. Lara, on the other hand, is always wanting the family to play games together and I confess that the boys and I are not always as enthusiastic as she would like. There is, however, a game that I am pretty much always up for, and that is Splendor.
Splendor is a simple game. You save up gem tokens to buy cards, which themselves correspond to one of five gems. The more you acquire, the more expensive cards you can afford. That’s about it. I’m not sure why it appeals to me as much as it does. Perhaps it’s because it doesn’t lag, or maybe it’s that the rules are straightforward (there are few things I have less patience for than listening to someone read me a rulebook).
In any case it’s a favorite in our house and I highly recommend it, whether you’re a fan of board games or are just married to someone who wishes you were.

Playing Splendor wearing Jack Jr's Tilley hat, a sure winner. Hugs and have a super weekend.
