The Funny Thing About Bob Dylan
There have been many Bob Dylans over the years. He started as an earnest young folk singer, then adopted the persona of the rebellious young artist with Something Important to Say. He has carefully curated many personas since then. And now we have the Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan; my 18-year-old self would have applauded this honor, but I’m not sure that would be true of any more recent selves. On the other hand, there have been worse choices.
My favorite Bob Dylan album is Blonde on Blonde. I can’t say it’s under-rated; it still shows up on many “best album” lists. In the long stretch of his career, it’s an early album. I like it because it’s the point where he realized he had Something Funny to Say. You’ve heard “Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again;” less known but even funnier is “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat.”

Olive My Affection
… is given to Tassos stuffed olives. After I discovered their garlic and jalapeño-stuffed olives a few years ago, I think I told Lara, “these may be the only things I’ve ever truly loved.” Now, I’m not a foodie. I don’t really get “food culture” whatever that means. My feeling about foodies is summed up by a friend’s wedding I attended years ago, where their reception featured fresh sashimi and sushi. Which would have been great, if it hadn’t been outdoors in July in North Carolina, where we all sat and waited for 45 minutes as the wedding party had their pictures taken.
Dear reader, I did not try the raw fish.
But YOU should try Tassos. I’ve never been let down by anything of theirs I have tried. And if Costco ever gets those garlic and jalapeño olives back in stock, I’m going to have to find an employee so I can borrow the forklift.

Love Tassos, and have Dylan in my Apple library. I really enjoy reading Jack and Jack. So thanks for the time and effort it takes to teach us, humor us, and expand our horizons.
I got the olives yesterday. Delicious!
