The Good Stuff
Pride and Prejudice and Sweet potato chips
The 1995 BBC Production of Pride and Prejudice
I saw the new movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights over the weekend. I thought of writing a Bad Stuff post about it, but then I would have had to relive it.
It is rare for a great book to be rendered successfully into film. One of the few exemplars is the BBC’s 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice. A made-for-TV mini-series, the episodes cover a bit more than 5 hours. It’s good enough that I’ve watched it in a single sitting.
The film is well-scripted and well-paced, conveying the essence of the storyline with fidelity despite the inevitable pruning required to fit the novel within the confines of a film. Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth are memorable as Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, but the cast is outstanding from top to bottom. Elizabeth’s parents and sisters, Mr. Bingley, Mr. Collins, Lady Catherine de Bourgh – each of them is what I visualize when I reread the novel.
If you love the book, you won’t be disappointed by this production.

Sweet Potato Chips
In a Good Stuff post last month, I recommended sweet potato sticks that I get from Costco. At least a few of you gave them a shot, and the reviews have been mixed! I would not say that I have a particularly discerning palate (which is probably one of the reasons I don’t find intermittent fasting very difficult). Therefore, I am therefore more than willing to admit that, in addition to not being for everyone, it is possible I am the only person who likes them.
I thought I would follow that recommendation up by addressing the main critique I’ve heard: The texture. People expected them to be crunchy and were surprised or perplexed to realize that they are, in fact, chewy. So, let me offer an alternative that I am actually confident will gain much wider appreciation. Costco also sells sweet potato chips that are excellent. I mean, dangerously excellent. They are a genuine problem for me and I haven’t yet figured out how to introduce restraint. Maybe these chips will be a better fit for a weekly post that promises “good stuff.”

I tried to find them at the West Ashley Costco. They said they were seasonal. I will keep looking. Hints on where in Costco lol
