Great post Jack. It seems to me, that one of the challenges churches face is getting people there without watering down the message. Many pastors emphasize "feeling good" about yourself, whereas few preach on the necessity of "pursuing holiness".

Agree. What’s interesting to me is that people’s definition of “watering down” tends to be based on their own preference. I’ve heard strictly biblical messages that didn’t actually have anything to say, and I’ve heard extremely low-shelf practical messages that hit hard with truth. And the reason just feeling good about yourself isn’t helpful is that we each know the truth about ourselves. It’s possible to see ourselves properly with love, but only if we see honestly
